The New Year always comes with a new set of trends for home and garden. We’ve put together our pick of the top new garden trends for 2022 to help you make the most of your outdoor space this year.
Over the last few years we have all spent a lot more time at home than usual, which has had a huge impact on how we utilise our home and garden space. Many people across the country have been investing in their garden to create a multi-functional area that all the family can enjoy. So, if you’re looking to spruce up your garden space this year, read on to learn more about some of the top trends we’re anticipating.
Combining the benefits of indoor and outdoor
We’ve all heard of bringing the outdoors in, but why not take the indoors out? Creating an outdoor area that’s just as comfortable and as cosy as an indoor room is the perfect way to relax whilst benefiting from the fresh air and connecting to the natural world.
Here’s a few of our ideas:
- Use tall shrubs and plants to create a sense of enclosure to areas of your garden.
- Add cover, whether that’s using a parasol like these or building a roofed area from wood.
- Invest in a really comfortable chair or sofa to lounge on. You could even get a hammock or a hanging egg chair for an even more relaxing space. - Make sure the space is well lit with plenty of lighting. You could use string lights, lanterns, garden spot lights or outdoor lamps.

Gardening for wildlife
It’s now becoming an even bigger priority for homeowners to create a garden that is wildlife friendly. We’re not just talking about things like bird feeders although these are important too, but more fundamental changes such as using a more diverse range of plants or including water features in your garden to provide a place for wildlife to visit.
You could even grow some climber plants, not only do these look fabulous in any garden space but plants like ivy provide good sources of food and pollen for wildlife, as well as offering cover for birds and insects.

With a greater emphasis being put on outdoor living since the pandemic began, many of us are becoming even more keen to cook outside. We expect to see more and more people introducing more colourful plants that smell nice and even more people beginning to grow their own fragrant herbs. Water features are also typically associated with a calming and relaxing space so we also expect to see an increase in demand for these items.
Creating a more luxury feel to garden space
Another key trend we’re starting to see is people wanting to add a statement piece to their garden that creates a more luxurious feel. More specifically, we’re expecting people to be more interested in garden water features, firepits and feature lights.
